Episode Description
Sandwich generation stress impacts most adults with children and aging parents who depend on them for care. Add multi-generational ADHD to that equation, and the challenges and pressures increase exponentially on the caregivers in the middle doing all the work — while managing their own executive function deficits. On top of that, cultural or historical stigma around mental health issues may make communication more difficult among multiple generations with ADHD. Add in the executive function challenges of planning activities, organizing, delivering hands-on caregiving, managing relationships, and paying bills, and it’s no wonder that we — parents of children, who are also the children of older parents — get exhausted!
As a registered marriage and family therapist, social worker, and ‘jam in the sandwich’ of a multi-generational ADHD family, Danna McDonald will offer strategies we can all use to take care of ourselves and our families in our busy world. She will talk about the challenges that ADHD can present and ways to incorporate self-compassion and other strategies as we navigate caring for our parents and our children simultaneously.
In this webinar, you will learn about:
- The unique challenges facing caregivers in the sandwich generation
- Strategies and tools to mitigate these challenges
- How self-compassion can help us reduce stress and cope more effectively
